What are lab-created gemstones?

Lab-created gemstones are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined gemstones. They are grown in controlled laboratory environments using advanced technologies like CVD, HPHT, and Czochralski processes — resulting in stones with the same crystal structure, hardness, and brilliance as natural gems, but without the environmental and ethical concerns of mining.

Are lab-created gemstones “fake”?

No. They are real gemstones — not simulants like cubic zirconia or glass. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recognizes lab-grown diamonds as genuine diamonds. The only difference is their origin: grown in a lab rather than mined from the earth.

How can you tell a lab-grown gemstone from a mined one?

To the naked eye and standard jewelry tools, they are indistinguishable from mined gems. Specialized gemological equipment can detect subtle growth patterns unique to laboratory environments, which is how gem labs issue certificates identifying a stone as lab-grown.
